Bali visa for Indians: visa on arrival and the tourist levy
By Ganesh ·
How Indians enter Bali and Indonesia. The 30-day visa on arrival or e-VOA, the fee, the Bali tourist levy, arrival forms, extensions and trip costs.
The short answer: Indians can get a visa on arrival (VoA) for Indonesia, including Bali. It costs IDR 500,000 (roughly ₹2,600–₹2,800, depending on the exchange rate), allows 30 days, and can be extended once for another 30 days inside Indonesia. You can buy it at the airport, or online before you fly as an e-VOA on Indonesia's official immigration site (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), which lets you skip the VoA counter. Bali also charges a separate tourist levy of IDR 150,000, payable online through the official Love Bali site (lovebali.baliprov.go.id).
Indonesia updates its visa fees, arrival forms and levies from time to time. Check the official immigration and Love Bali sites for the current rules and amounts before you pay. This guide is general information, not legal advice.
VoA vs e-VOA
| Visa on arrival | e-VOA (online) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Counter at Bali (Denpasar) and other major airports | evisa.imigrasi.go.id, before you fly |
| Fee | IDR 500,000 | IDR 500,000 plus card charges |
| Stay | 30 days, extendable once by 30 | 30 days, extendable once by 30 (can be done online) |
| Best for | Travellers who don't mind a queue | Families, late-night arrivals, anyone who wants to go straight to immigration |
Use only the official site. Many lookalike "Bali visa" sites charge much more for the same e-VOA.
Before you fly: the checklist
- Passport valid for at least six months from arrival, with blank pages.
- Return or onward ticket.
- e-VOA (if you're buying it online), print or save the PDF.
- Arrival declaration: Indonesia uses an online arrival card for customs (and health). Fill it in on the official immigration or customs channel within the window before arrival.
- Bali tourist levy paid on Love Bali (or at the airport counter), and the QR code saved.
What a Bali trip costs from India (approximate)
| Item | Cost per person |
|---|---|
| Visa on arrival / e-VOA | About ₹2,600–₹2,800 |
| Bali tourist levy | About ₹800 |
| Return flights (usually one stop via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok) | ₹25,000–₹45,000 |
| Hotels / villas, mid-range | ₹3,000–₹8,000 a night |

Extending your stay
A VoA or e-VOA can be extended once, for 30 more days, before it expires. Apply online on the immigration site or through an immigration office in Bali; allow time, because an office visit for photos may be needed.
When to go
April to October is the dry season. Searches for Bali trips from India peak around December and again in April–May. July–August and Christmas–New Year are the busiest and priciest times.
Tips
- Don't overstay: fines are charged per day, and long overstays lead to detention and deportation.
- Respect temple rules: wear a sarong and sash; they're often lent or rented at the entrance.
- Plan by area: Ubud, Seminyak/Canggu and Uluwatu are an hour or more apart in traffic. A Sancharees trip shows drive times between stops so you don't overpack a day.
