Honeymoon destinations by month: where to go from India, January to December
By Ganesh ·
Month-by-month honeymoon ideas from India, with one place in India and one abroad for every month, picked for good weather that month, plus notes on visas, budgets and when to book.
The best honeymoon destination depends mostly on the month of your wedding. A place that's perfect in February can be a washout in July. Below is one pick in India and one abroad for each month, chosen for the weather in that month, with short notes on why. Most Indian weddings fall between November and February, so those months get the most detail.

Month by month
January
The Andaman sea is calm and clear, and Havelock is at its best. Abroad, the Andaman coast of Thailand (Krabi, Phi Phi, Phuket) is dry and sunny. Indians currently enter Thailand visa-free for short stays, which makes a last-minute booking easy, but check the current rule.
February
Kerala is warm but not yet humid: tea hills in Munnar, a houseboat night on the backwaters, a beach in Varkala. The Maldives are in the dry season, with calm water for snorkelling. Indians get a free visa on arrival. Water villas are expensive; a local-island guesthouse plus a day trip to a resort costs far less.
March
Goa empties out after the winter rush but the sea is still warm. Vietnam is pleasant from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in March, with an e-visa and short direct flights from several Indian cities.
April
Darjeeling and Gangtok are fresh and clear before the monsoon, with rhododendrons in bloom. Japan has the cherry blossoms in early April. It's crowded and costly, but it's the most romantic spring trip there is. Book stays four to six months ahead.
May
When the plains are at their hottest, the Himalayan towns fill up. Manali, Kasol and the Atal Tunnel to Sissu are a cool break. Bali is just entering its dry season in May, with green rice terraces and fewer crowds than in July.
June
Ladakh opens up properly: Pangong, Nubra and Leh's monasteries. Plan two quiet days in Leh first to get used to the altitude. Switzerland is green, the lakes are warm enough for a swim and the long evenings are lovely.
July
Most of India is in the monsoon. Spiti and Ladakh stay mostly dry; the Valley of Flowers is in bloom, but it's a trek. Greece is hot, busy and beautiful in July. Pick a smaller island like Naxos or Milos over Santorini if you want space.
August
If you like rain, Coorg and the Western Ghats are at their greenest, with mist and waterfalls. Bali is still dry. Mauritius is in its cooler winter, which suits people who don't like heat, and Indians get a visa on arrival.
September
Udaipur's lakes are full after the monsoon and the city is quieter before the winter crowds. Turkey is still warm, with better prices than in summer: Istanbul, a balloon flight in Cappadocia, and the coast at Kas or Fethiye.
October
Sikkim, Darjeeling and the Dooars are clear after the rains, with big views of Kanchenjunga. Dubai and Abu Dhabi start cooling down; desert camps and beach clubs open for the season.
November
Rajasthan's palace hotels are the classic Indian honeymoon: a lake-view room in Udaipur, a night under the stars in a Jaisalmer camp. Singapore and Malaysia are an easy short-haul pair for couples who want city and beach together.
December
Kerala and Goa are in full season and pricey around Christmas. Book early. Sri Lanka's south coast is sunny from December, and the Maldives are moving into their best months.
Budgets and booking
- A week in India for two, with nice but not luxury stays, usually runs from about ₹70,000 to ₹1,50,000 including flights. Short-haul trips abroad (Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, Sri Lanka) often cost ₹1,20,000 to ₹2,50,000 for two. Europe and Japan usually cost well above ₹3,00,000. These are rough ranges.
- Wedding season clashes with peak season in Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan and the Maldives. Book as soon as the date is fixed.
- Tell the hotel it's your honeymoon. Many add a cake, flowers or an upgrade if they can.
- Keep the first two days light. Most couples arrive exhausted from the wedding.
Questions people ask
Which honeymoon spots don't need a visa in advance?
Within easy reach: Nepal and Bhutan (no visa for Indians), the Maldives and Mauritius (visa on arrival), and Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, which have offered visa-free entry or easy e-visas to Indians in recent years. Rules change, so check each country's official site.
How long should a honeymoon be?
Seven to ten days is common. Fewer than five days makes long-haul trips hard to enjoy.
Is it OK to travel during the monsoon?
Yes, if you pick a place that's dry in those months, like Ladakh, Spiti, Bali or Mauritius, or one where rain is part of the charm, like Coorg or Munnar.
