Switzerland tour package or the Swiss Travel Pass?

A 7-day Switzerland package from India costs about ₹2–3.5 lakh per person; doing it yourself with a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card costs about ₹1.6–2.6 lakh. Which pass to buy, costs and a 7-day plan.

The short answer: a 7-day Switzerland tour package from India usually costs about ₹2,00,000–₹3,50,000 per person, including flights, the visa process, hotels, transfers and two mountain excursions. Doing it yourself with a Swiss Travel Pass (or a Half Fare Card) usually comes to ₹1,60,000–₹2,60,000 per person. Switzerland's trains, boats and mountain railways are so well connected that a DIY trip is simple; the main decision is which rail ticket to buy.

All prices are approximate, per person, for two people sharing, mid-range hotels, outside the July–August peak. Check the official SBB / Swiss Travel System pages for current pass prices.

What a typical Switzerland package includes

  • Return flights to Zurich or Geneva.
  • Schengen visa assistance.
  • Hotels in two bases, usually Lucerne (or Engelberg) and Interlaken, with breakfast; Indian dinners on many group tours.
  • Coach transfers or a rail pass, plus Mt Titlis and Jungfraujoch excursions.
  • Often a Rhine Falls stop, a Lucerne city tour and a lake cruise.

What it costs to do it yourself

Item Approximate cost per person
Return flights to Zurich ₹50,000–₹90,000
Schengen visa fee + service charges + insurance About ₹11,000–₹15,000 (check current fees)

Swiss Travel Pass, 6 days, 2nd class ₹30,000–₹40,000 (or a Half Fare Card plus point-to-point tickets)
Jungfraujoch (with pass discount) ₹12,000–₹18,000
A second mountain (Titlis, Schilthorn or Pilatus, discounted) ₹5,000–₹10,000
Food ₹15,000–₹25,000 (supermarkets help a lot)
Total about ₹1,60,000–₹2,60,000

Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card?

  • Swiss Travel Pass: unlimited trains, buses and lake boats on consecutive days, free entry to many museums, and discounts on most mountain railways. Worth it if you move bases and take long scenic trains (Glacier Express or GoldenPass seat reservations cost extra).
  • Half Fare Card: pay once, then half price on almost everything for a month. Often cheaper if you stay in one or two bases and take short trips.
  • Price your exact route on the SBB app before buying either; children under 16 travel free with a parent using the Swiss Family Card.

  1. Day 1: Land in Zurich, train to Lucerne (about an hour). Chapel Bridge and the lakefront.
  2. Day 2: Mt Pilatus or Mt Titlis; evening lake cruise.
  3. Day 3: Scenic train (Luzern–Interlaken Express) to Interlaken; Harder Kulm at sunset.
  4. Day 4: Jungfraujoch on the clearest day of your stay.
  5. Day 5: Lauterbrunnen valley, Mürren and the Schilthorn, or Grindelwald First.
  6. Day 6: Lake Brienz and Iseltwald, or a day trip to Bern.
  7. Day 7: Train to Zurich airport (with a stop at Rhine Falls if your flight is late).

Tips

  • Check the summit webcams the evening before; switch your Jungfraujoch day if it's cloudy.
  • June and September are the sweet spots; December–March is for snow and skiing.
  • Book hotels in Interlaken and Lucerne early for summer.
  • Tap water is excellent. Carry a bottle and refill at fountains.

FAQ

How much does a 7-day Switzerland trip from India cost?

About ₹1,60,000–₹3,50,000 per person, depending on season, hotels and whether you choose a package.

Is the Swiss Travel Pass worth it?

Yes if you move between several bases and use trains and boats daily; if you stay in one place, the Half Fare Card is often cheaper.

Can I see Switzerland without a tour group?

Easily. Trains connect every town and mountain station, are punctual, and have English signs and announcements.
